    Act for Providing for a Comprehensive Air Pollution Control Policy

    The Philippines Republic Act No. 8749 Providing for a Comprehensive Air Pollution Control Policy and for Other Purposes (‘the Act’) enforces the State’s obligation and responsibility to protect and advance the right of the people to a balanced and healthy ecology, as well as the promote the protection of the global environment and the enforcement of the principle ‘polluters must pay.’

  • Requirements

    The Act establishes requirements, among other things,  for automotive industries to set specifications for all types of fuel-related products, including that no person shall manufacture, import, sell, supply, offer for sale, dispense or transport into commerce unleaded premium gasoline fuel which has an anti-knock index, diesel fuel and/or industrial diesel which contains a concentration of sulphur of more than the specified amount provided by the Act. In addition, the Act notes that no manufacturer, processor or trader of any fuel or additive may import, sell, offer, or introduce into commerce such fuel or additive without the registration with the Department of Energy. 

    The Act establishes financial penalties for violations of its provisions, including, standards for stationary sources, as well as motor vehicles under Sections 45 to 48.
